Special Education
Welcome! My name is Debra Cahn and I am delighted to be the Special Education Campus Coordinator at Hyer. My passion and calling are Special Education so I am ecstatic about this year. I have over 20 years of experience in the field of Special Education. My experience includes teaching K-9th Resource, a self-contained class for students with Autism and in a LIFT classroom. I worked in Plano ISD as the SPED Team leader for an elementary school and for the summer ESY program. I was fortunate to join Highland Park ISD two years ago as the Hyer Resource teacher.
I graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelors degree in Special Education with endorsements in Learning Disabilities, Behavior Disorders, and High-Risk Recreation. My certifications include K-12 Special Education and English as a Second Language. I am currently working on my Master's Degree in Special Education with a specialization in Autism studies.

Hyer is a phenomenal school with a wonderful environment for learning on all levels. I believe that you will find that Hyer will give your child the opportunity to learn and grow intellectually, socially and emotionally, all in a safe environment. I feel so lucky to be working in such an exceptional school and district.
