Instructional coaches in HPISD provide support at each of the four elementary campuses. They incorporate two models of coaching:
- Instructional Coaching: to “increase teacher effectiveness and student learning by supporting teachers in implementing proven practices, reflecting on their instructional decisions, and making needed adjustments.” (Killion, et.al, Coaching Matters 2012).
- Technical Coaching to “increase teacher effectiveness and student learning by improving knowledge of processes, procedures, resources, and protocols.” (Killion, et.al, Coaching Matters 2012).
Instructional coaches serve their individual campuses as instructional specialists, facilitators of professional learning, data coaches, resource providers, and classroom supporters. Above all, they serve as catalysts for continuous learning and improvement.
