Welcome to Hyer Elementary Music!

I am in my 19th year as the music teacher at Hyer Elementary.  I previously taught elementary music for 2 years in Mesquite ISD and 1 year in Garland ISD.  I earned a Masters Degree in music performance from the University of Iowa and two Bachelor Degrees in music education and music performance from Louisiana State University. 

 I am certified in Level I Kodály, a process that includes singing, ear training, solfège, and rhythmic movement to achieve the goal of music literacy.  I am also certified in all three levels of Orff Schulwerk, an approach to music education that presents the elements of music in active participation involving speech, movement, song, and instrumental accompaniment through imitation, improvisation, and literacy.  

In my spare time I love to spend time with my husband and two boys, play my flute, and read.
