The Hyer Husky Helpers accepted the challenge to help out with the Family Legacy Missions International Shoe Day collection. (http://www.legacymissions.org/ ) This group, which includes Hyer Speech Teacher Angie Friddle, is collecting shoes for kids in Africa. Miss Friddle goes to Africa each summer to work in a day Camp and they pass out shoes to children who have never had new shoes before!
The Hyer Husky Helpers are a group of 4th graders who have organized several service learning projects this year for the Hyer community. As a result of all their hard work the Hyer students collected 277 pairs of shoes. The 4th graders helped pack these shoes in organized sized boxes and load them up to be shipped to Zambia. A team of 4th graders worked with each class to tell them about the project and remind them to bring in shoes. One student bought 12 pairs of tennis shoes with her own money. She was very proud of her effort and of the efforts of all of her classmates.
Hyer Husky Helpers visit Rice Learning Center to make Valentines
On Monday, February 4th 27 fourth graders went to the Rice Learning Center to help the students in the AfterCare program make Valentines. We also took school supplies that were collected by the HYER kindergarteners. They donated 100 of each kind of school supply and we bagged them into Valentine goodie bags and gave them to our new friends. THANK YOU KINDERGARTENERS! A great time was had by all!
