Welcome To Hyer Elementary
Established in 1949, Hyer Elementary School was built to serve the growing Highland Park community and became the sixth school constructed by Highland Park ISD. Originally planned in the early 1940s, construction was delayed by World War II before beginning in 1947 on a seven-and-a-half-acre site in University Park. Designed by noted architect Mark Lemmon, the campus opened on January 24, 1949, welcoming its first students who famously walked from University Park Elementary to begin a new chapter in HPISD history.
Named in honor of Dr. Robert Stewart Hyer, a pioneering Texas educator and the founding president of Southern Methodist University, Hyer Elementary reflects a legacy of leadership, innovation, and educational excellence. Serving Pre-K through fourth grade students, the campus continues to build on its rich traditions while fostering a culture of kindness, academic achievement, and community that prepares Huskies to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
